Cruising in Gay Rome - A Guide to Hooking up!
Always Cruise Responsibly! Know the laws in your area, be aware and sensitive to the local community & NEVER expose minors or anyone who is not consenting to sexually explicit conduct. Use common sense & good judgment to Cruise safely & responsibly!
1.Piazzale del Galoppatoio
Located near the top of via Veneto (right near the American Embassy). Beware of Police Checks. Busy at night time with local guys of all ages. Guys will park their cars across the street while they cruise.
2.Monte Caprino
Not the easiest place to find, Walking from Piazza Venezia past the Roman Capital Building, take your first right up the winding road overlooking the Forum. Walk for approximately 2 kilometers.
We have been told that the gates close now in the eveings, however one remains open. This area gets busy late at night especially by the terraced gardens along the hill overlooking the ruins.
3. Colosseo Quadrato
The Colosseo Quadrato, by the Metro Magliana is busy by the gardens near Bar Palomini, especially in the evening and it can get quite crowded.
4. Spiaggia Il Buco
A. Il Buco Beach B. Ostia Resort C. Termini Station
The flight from the inevitable Roman summer heat in the city beings in June. We recommend a day trip to the less well-known Spiaggia Il Buco gay beach.
From the heart of the city it is about a one hour journey on public transit and makes a fun picnic day away from the historic ruins and a chance to catch some eye-candy as the local gays and lesbians enjoy their piece of paradise on the Tyrrhenian Sea.
There is a stretch of nude beach which is mostly populated by the gay community. And of course there are plenty of places to escape the sun and enjoy a cool beverage plus some local pasta specialties or real Italian thin crust pizza.
Getting there is slightly complicated but if you take the Metro B (blue) line train from the Termini Station to Piramide and then change to the Metro destined for Ostia and get off at Cristoforo Colombio, then take the number seven bus to Capocotta, you will easily find the beach using your gaydar---or by asking a local resident. It is well worth the journey and any Roman holiday needs some oceanside time.
Sex Bars
For getting directly down to business, Rome boasts several man to man bars-cum-sex-clubs.
Skyline Club (Via Pontremoli 36), near San Giovanni metro, has two darkrooms, porn videos, and pulls a generally younger crowd that likes the high-energy music they play. Third Saturdays here are devoted to bears. Co-owner Gian Carlo offers friendly tourist advice.
Frequency (Via Enea 34), three metro stops further down Via Appia Nuova, (beyond Furio Camillo), is a bar open nightly except Tuesdays, with a weekend sex club that's known for it's naked parties. The Leather Club of Rome (Lcroma.com) meets here too.
The Sphinx Club formerly at Piazza Manfredo Fanti, is now closed, but has plans to reopen at a new location. Check local leather websites for updates.
Other sex clubs include Diavolo Dentro (Largo Itri 23) with darkrooms and cabins, labyrinth and sling, food, drinks, shows and hardcore movies -- open weekends only; and K-Men's Club (Via Amato Amati 8), a men's cruising and sex bar with shows, open daily except Mondays.
Note: A lot of guides recommend various cottages and WCs for cruising. We recommend you exercice caution.
